Summer Recap: We JOINED IN

Meals and adventures have marked our Kitsap House summer, and they continue to do so! It feels like we really are following the footsteps of Jesus by spending time with our neighbors on the water, around the table, and in the middle of outdoor parties.

Back while schools were still meeting and it hadn’t quite warmed up yet, we chose for this to be a summer that we would be with our neighbors. Here in the PNW, that doesn’t always mean putting a bunch of recurring events on the books. Instead, being with our neighbors requires downtime. So we cleared the program calendar outside of Sunday mornings to make some space to be more available.

Available for the:

  • Energy to text, “Want to come over for a fire and s’mores?”

  • Time to walk, “What have you been up to?”

  • Margin to invite, “It’s going to be beautiful today! Want to take out the kayaks with us?”

Does that seem ideal but hasn’t happened for you yet? Could you pick 2 moments before Labor Day to be available like that with your neighbors?

We did plan some meals and adventures, and they’ve been exactly what we hoped for! You’ve invited the folks of Kitsap House to come and be with your neighbors!

You invited people to JOIN IN and we hung out:

  • Hiking a couple of times with Diane and her neighbors, enjoying God’s creation together.

  • Eating freshly caught crab prepared by Bert and Cathy’s neighbor (I met at least a dozen new people that day).

  • Watching the kids run around thirty of us at Yoked Brewery, connecting some of y’all who live in Olalla with some of our Tuesday morning moms and their families.

  • Sharing about how good God is with more than a dozen of our son’s friends in our backyard for Wonder Week.

  • Beautifying City Hall by spreading mulch around the flower beds.

You can still JOIN IN! There’s a Shy Boys outdoor concert coming up, another jaunt to Yoked Brewery, and maybe other things you’ll invite us to join in with you and your neighbors!

We want to connect, Friends. We are a church for our neighbors. And that doesn’t mean just the people and businesses who are our neighbors around 703 Kitsap St. It means your neighbors. We are a church, a community, a people who exist to share the love of God with your neighbors, too. So invite us to join in with you in your last days of summer.

But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them, unless someone is sent to do it? That’s why Scripture exclaims, A sight to take your breath away! Grand processions of people telling all the good things of God!

Romans 10:14-15 The Message

Let’s keep joining in with one another this summer, sharing life with our neighbors. Keep an eye on this calendar to join in and offer your own event for us to join in with you here!

I hope to see you soon!

Megan
