Exploring Faith

What if church was a place to ask questions? What if belonging happened outside of one hour on Sunday?

What’s your story?

Maybe you’re someone who feels like God’s out there, but you’re too embarrassed about the questions you have. Maybe you’ve been a part of a church and you’re disillusioned or burnt by your experience. But you haven’t given up. For someone like you, Sunday morning might not be the best place to start engaging (or re-engaging) faith.

Here’s three places we hope you can explore faith with us.

Neighborhood Dinners

Neighborhood Dinners are held in homes across Kitsap and Pierce County. These are great places to meet people who life near you, and want to see their neighborhood flourish.

  • Wherever you are in your spiritual journey, all of us hope for our neighborhoods to flourish. Neighborhood dinners are a space anyone is welcome to come, right in your neighborhood. Held in homes, these dinners include a meal (duh) and a conversation, simple beginnings that provide a foundation for people to encourage and serve one another and their neighbors. These dinners are a great place for people to begin to explore community at Kitsap House.

  • A couple of times a year we host a course called Alpha. Alpha always has a meal, because we believe that feeling welcome and belonging come before good conversation. After the meal, we watch a video on a spiritual question (like, “Who is Jesus?” or “Why and how do we pray?”). We end the night with a discussion around the table, led by a host who seeks to facilitate open, nonjudgmental conversation around the topic. Alpha offers experiences with God, prayer, hospitality, and friendship and is a great place for someone who needs room to ask questions or talk about their perspective on faith. We might host this at the 703 Residency, a “Third Place” in the community, or even in someone’s home.

  • For someone who has been through Alpha and feels ready to explore how to live out faith, we host a course called Practicing The Way several times a year. This course asks the question, “What is the way of Jesus?” We believe the way of Jesus is the better way, and we seek to learn from him and his way through learning how to integrate practices that help us be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did. Like Alpha, this course begins with a meal and focuses on the experience of exploring ancient practices of faith that help transform us.
