Mitchell House’s Door Is Open

Literally! We have opened the door of 1153 Mitchell Ave. And we want you to come inside! So long as you have an imagination for a “before” project… ha! The leaders of Kitsap House have been dreaming and personally sacrificing to follow what certainly feels to be God’s leading as it regards “Mitchell House.” (That’s right, we’re calling this building, “Mitchell House.”)

We believe God is calling us to restore this building so that the neighborhood can Walk into Hope Restored. We are anticipating the building being used by the community all week long. Kitsap House will worship and host our larger gatherings there. We hope to purchase it this spring and begin reconstruction shortly thereafter. It’ll take work and collective resourcing of all kinds!

Here’s a bit of a breakdown on what’s been happening:

  • Contract signed. We went under contract for the building last summer (a Purchase & Sale Agreement)

  • Year of prep work commenced. We knew it would take a year to gather the funds and ensure that the building was workable from the perspectives of construction, community partnership, and city processes.

  • Resource gathering. We have asked our church leaders and a handful of families who are relationally adjacent to Kitsap House and have a heart for Port Orchard to pull our resources to purchase the building. After that, the work of restoration will require the whole community of Kitsap House!

Well, all signs are pointing toward the metaphorical doors opening for a full reconstruction of this property. We aren’t quite to the point of purchase, but momentum has been building significantly. (If you missed it, listen to the things God has been speaking to us in this sermon…)

And now the literal doors are open! We’ve graciously been given the opportunity by the owners to do some significant site clean up. Rod’s team has marked where walls will move. We’ve staged the spaces a bit so you can have an imagination for how the rooms might be used.

We want you to imagine with us. Come celebrate what God’s been doing with us. Come have your hope restored.

This Sunday afternoon, March 23, we’ll have the front doors opened (quite the feat, actually!).

11:30-12:30 Right after our worship service, you can come and walk through.

OR

2:00-3:00 Walk through with the neighbors and meet some of them!

We’re so excited to be taking our next steps and want you in on it.

Pastor Megan
