Not too busy for you

Elbo Creek, July 10, 2024 "Another great day in the woods."

Summer may be flying, but it is still summer. What if you said, “August is just beginning!” with hopeful anticipation rather than saying, “It’s already August,” as if everything is running away from you. It’s not running. It’s just ticking. And I’m passing along the permission from God to all of us to keep breathing. Slow down. Walk, don’t run. Take the Lord’s pace.

We’ve been walking this summer in different ways as a community.

I wonder – when was the last time you took a leisurely walk? What did you notice?

Today on our prayer walk it was a mixed bag – more people than we expected to see; buildings that looked in worse condition than we’d remembered; flowers that stunned; at least one person really enjoying the water.

Town Hall drew all our attention in different ways. The siding is ripped off at the moment, reminding us that being restored requires a lot to come off and a lot of exposure of what’s not working before you can replace what is. That taught us to pray, inviting the Father to do restoration work, even if it means getting rid of habits or routines, exposing what’s not working, so that we can – down the road – replace with more grace-filled routines filled with God’s presence.

Could you carve out an hour in the next couple of days to go on a walk? I challenge you to a pace slower than usual. To put down the phone or the earbuds and just notice. What draws your attention? Does that become a place of prayer?

In a couple of weeks we’ll be meeting up to talk about how we’ve met God in our walking this summer. We invite you to join us on Thursday, August 22!

Let’s be a people praying for God to move in shalom as we take the time to notice with him where he is at work and what still needs God’s restoration. It’s not too late!
